Our inner Miranda Priestly usually scoffs at pastels and florals for spring, but it’s hard to resist the downright pretty styles designers have lined up for Spring ’16.
This new crop of pastel footwear is bolder, richer and less twee with deep tones of powder blue, seafoam green and pinkish lavender — complementary accessories for the feminine frocks seen on the spring runway, including Michael Kors’ lace dresses, Erdem’s romantic floral frocks and Burberry Prorsum’s sugary pink (albeit sheer) confections.
On the casual end, look for dusty pastel suede ankle boots, cutout ballet flats and easy-to-wear sandals to kick around in on the weekend.
For dressier occasions, think party, not wedding party. There’s nothing bridesmaid-ish about a lace-up stiletto in sunny yellow, or a shimmery blue peep-toe bootie — unless the Maid of Honor wants to pull a Pippa Middleton, and in that case, she should be relegated to the pews.
Here’s a look at some of our favorite pastel styles spotted at trade shows and showrooms this season.
