Payless Could Reach Up to 800 Store Closures

Payless ShoeSource wants to double the number of store closures, according to a USA Today report.

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy early last month, announcing the closure of 400 underperforming stores.

Now, the retailer reportedly is asking a federal bankruptcy judge for permission to add another 408 stores to the closure list, making the list of potential store closures grow to around 800 locations—around 20 percent of Payless’ worldwide locations.

Payless wants to quicken store closures in order to secure lower rent at underperforming locations.
