After 2016, the world could use a fresh start.
Pantone must have had the same idea, with their pick of “Greenery” for the 2017 Color of the Year, a shade of green that invites restoration and new life.
“Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals individuals to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate,” describes Pantone in their official announcement of the color.
As the name suggests, Greenery is a leafy green that most resembles the light shade of leaves when they bud in spring.
For fashion and apparel Pantone says, “Greenery is nature’s neutral. A great harmonizer merging undertones of cool blues with vibrant yellows, the hue is a natural complement to a wide range of palettes.”
An eye catching, very organic shade of green, Greenery will certainly find its place during Spring/Summer ’17. Pantone cites the appearance of Greenery in the recent collections of Kenzo, Michael Kors, Zac Posen and Cynthia Rowley.
VAMP has already spotted bright emerald hues in Fall ’17 footwear collections, including Vionic’s new kitten heel and Sebago’s penny loafers.
With 2016, Pantone broke tradition offering two colors for Color of The Year: Serenity and Rose Quartz. A shade of sky blue and light pink respectively, Pantone was speaking to the trending interest in fashion of androgyny, with both shades suggesting a deconstruction of gender roles.
While Serenity and Rose Quartz expressed the need for harmony in a chaotic world, Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman says Greenery “bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for amid a complex social and political landscape.”
She added, “Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate, revitalize and unite, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”
