Outdoor-inspired trims, classic Italian silhouettes and natural materials are some of the strong themes trend forecasting firm Fashion Snoops predicts for men’s footwear.
Here’s a look at some of the key Spring ’18 looks to know before you hit the show floor.
Deconstructed designs, heirloom qualities and timeless details help tell this trend’s heartland story. Key materials include hemp linen, straw, imperfect wovens and raw leather. Patchwork, hand woven accents, stitched leathers and braided and woven trims brings an artisan touch to designs. Saddle straps and ankle straps add functionality men’s sandals and lace-up ankle boots. Other key silhouettes include leather tennis shoes and woven slip-ons.
This story creates a sense of adventure with rugged elements, smart textiles and digital motifs. Water-resistant finishes, canvas, performance knits, tech transparencies and packed cloth nylon enhance the trend’s camping theme. Paracord lacing, accent stitching and oversized ankle straps can be found on active sandals, sock-like constructions, runners and hiking boots.
Tradition and technology co-mingle in this trend focused on modern day classics that fit seamlessly into men’s wardrobes. Smooth leather uppers, performance knit, glossy finishes and neoprene help provide strong shapes, while pull tabs, Velcro straps and active detailing add a touch of sport. Slip-on tennis shoes with Velcro monk straps or brogue details, sneaker-shoe hybrids and active sneakers for casual wear are key silhouettes.
Traditional Italian menswear merges with art for this trend’s eclectic color and texture stories. While the silhouettes are simple (i.e. classic loafers, slippers and oxfords), the materials and trims are anything but. Expect to see printed and smooth leathers, silk brocade, canvas, beading, velvet and patent leather to be smashed with undone embroidery, paint strokes and leather appliques. Cameo-inspired motifs and embellished buckles bring a Dandy-like feeling to the overall look.
