Nike Wants You to Invent a New Way To Lace Sneakers

Calling all sneakerheads, designers, dreamers and engineers. If you have an easier way to tie sneakers, Nike has 50 grand with your name on it.

Nike announced on Friday the Nike Ease Challenge, a contest calling for designers and engineers to come up with a new way to secure sneakers, for a grand prize of $50,000.

The Nike Ease Challenge invites contestants to imagine a new athletic footwear innovation like the HyperAdapt 1.0, the Nike Air Rift or the Nike Flyease, which all help consumers put on, secure and take off their sneakers.

“Nike is driven by a competitive spirit that drives us to do the seemingly impossible for our athletes,” said Mark Parker, Nike president and CEO. “Today, we are working with others who share our passion for removing barriers through breakthrough innovation. I can’t wait to see what powerful ideas come out of this challenge.”

Submissions for the Ease Challenge continue until Dec. 15 with three finalists selected at the end of March 2017. Just like Willy Wonka’s golden ticket contest, the three finalists will be invited to the Nike World Headquarters in Oregon to present their designs to Nike’s panel. The winner will be chosen in April 2017.
