GDS Shines a Spotlight on Trend-Breaking Designers

GDS will spotlight 20 top-notch designers at its next edition set to take place in Dusseldorf, Germany Feb. 4-6, 2015 in a new concept area called, “Design Trendsetter” located at the Studio. The project, a joint venture between GDS and Milan agency Honegger, will showcase a juried selection of collections by an international brigade of designers.

In the run-up to the event, a board, which included Ernesto Esposito formerly of Sergio Rossi, Chloé, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs, Veronique Branquinho, Parson’s dean of fashion Simon Collins, Giuseppe Baiardo, GDS Director Kirstin Deutelmoser and Honegger managing director Armando Honegger, narrowed about 40 designer applicants down to 20, each with their own unique point-of-view.

Among the selected were Christina Martini and Nikolas Minoglou for their brand Ancient Greek Sandals, Nicole Brundage, Hajime Sonoda, Julia Lundsten and Laurence Dacade, whose creations are worn by the likes of Lady Gaga and Rihanna and are sold in renowned department stores like Colette in Paris and New York’s Bergdorf Goodman, and Silvia Massacesi, an accessories designer known for her sustainable approach to product development.

The “Designer Trendsetter” project will also highlight aspiring designers, including Carolin Holzhuber, Linda Sieto and Testuya Uenobe, who are at the start of their design careers and already provided trend-breaking designs with their collections.
