Moccasins, espadrilles and gladiator sandals were just a few of the fashion trends dominating GDS held in Düsseldorf, Germany July 29-31. Over 900 brands presented their Spring ’16 collections to 15,000 domestic and international attendees. Additionally, another 223 exhibitors at Tag It!, the private labels show for footwear and accessories, showcased their latest designs.
This season, GDS spotlighted innovations in dedicated areas that highlighted new materials and various 3D technologies in the footwear industry. Trend Spots offered creative merchandising tips for brick-and-mortar retailers, meanwhile, a series of fashion shows brought the trends to life.
“We welcomed exactly the same number of visitors as one year ago and our exhibitors have reported avid interest in their collections. You can feel that the retailers who attend GDS use it proactively as an information platform – in terms of content the developments are very positive. After the positive response in the trade press over the past two events, however, I would have liked to see the same trend for the visitor attendance as well,” said Messe Düsseldorf President and CEO Werner Mattias Dornscheidt in a statement.
In a survey, 80 percent of polled visitors said they rely on GDS as a source of information to be “well prepared” for the upcoming season. Two-thirds of buyers surveyed said they made purchasing decisions on site, and 39 percent of visitors placed orders for immediates.
GDS Director Kirstin Deutelmoser, added, “Needless to say we are pleased with the exhibitors’ praise and the very high visitor satisfaction. But this cannot blind us to the fact that the general ‘footfall’ is not sufficient to satisfy all exhibitors. We are getting an extremely positive feedback from the retailers who were here – it’s just a shame there were not more of them coming.”
The next edition of GDS takes place Feb. 10-12, 2016.
