Footwear Veteran Harry Home Dies at 85

Footwear industry veteran Harry Home, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on Sept. 27. Home began his career when he was 15-years-old at Nordstrom. He was one of the first non-family members to become a Nordstrom vice president when he helped expand the company to Oregon.

In his early 40s, Home started his own business, Home Shoe Company, which ran successfully for 18 years. He went on to make his mark in many other areas of footwear including wholesale, manufacturing and in retail for Meier & Frank, all while mentoring, inspiring and leading many who are now successful leaders in the footwear industry.

The Home family said his greatest loves were his family, the shoe industry and the people who worked in it. Up until his death, Home was excited by shoe samples. He is survived by his eight children, 36 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was the father of Scott Home, president of Coolway and Musse&Cloud, and Todd Home, a sales representative for Mia.

A memorial will be held on Friday, Oct. 23 at Willamette National Cemetery in Happy Valley, OR. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Two Ten Footwear Foundation to the memory of Harry Home Endowed Scholarship Fund.
