What does one wear in a neon pink motocross world? Neoprene creepers, translucent outsoles and bungee cord laces, according to Fenty Puma Creative Director, Rihanna.
Puma and Rihanna presented the Spring ’18 Fenty Puma collection at New York Fashion Week on Sunday, unleashing a motocross-meets-surf presentation set against pink sand dunes and with a flurry of motocross stunt drivers.
Paying homage to Puma’s history in motorsport, Rihanna transformed classic performance racing gear into runway-ready looks refreshed in tech materials such as lightweight leathers, nylon and air tech mesh. Footwear took a technical turn with neoprene Creepers, translucent stacked soles and bungee cord laces. The Fenty slide returns as an espadrille slip-on and a leather/neoprene pool slide. Dressier silos include thong heeled sandals, ankle strap heels and bungee cord lace-up shoes feature a split Puma cat on the heel.
True to the brand’s DNA, the collection offers gender-fluid silhouettes and oversized shapes paired with sexy body-con styles. The classic track suit is updated with a surf-inspired twist with neon bungee cords and super lightweight rubber coated leather. The iconic lacing leggings were refashioned with bungee cords and cut outs up to there in pop colors.
For Spring ’18 Rihanna introduced swimwear. Mono-kinis and bikinis pair with terry toweling hoodies, oversized graphic sweatshirts and basketball shorts. Pops of neon, gel prints, wetsuit pullers and rubber patch details throughout the collection are a nod to throwback surf and extreme watersport culture.
The Spring ’18 collection will launch at lifestyle and fashion retailers worldwide in March 2018.
